The Fifty Best Domestic Vodka Tasting 2025


The Tasting:
The Fifty Best held a “blind” tasting of 6 flavored vodkas with a panel of 17 judges. The order of service was established beforehand by lottery. Strict tasting rules were applied. The flavored vodkas were poured into fresh glasses from new sealed bottles, and served at slightly above room temperature. Only ice water, unflavored unsalted crackers and chips were available to cleanse the palate.

The flavored vodkas were tasted in groups of flavor categories. The judges were informed of the flavors, but not the brands. The scoring was done on a 5-point system, with 5 as the highest. Double-Gold, Gold and Silver medals were awarded according to a set range of final point scores received from the judges. There were no Bronze medals awarded for the tasting. Medals are provided based entirely on merit and only to products judged worthy of such award.

The tasting notes that follow are summaries of the judges’ opinions, with all replicated commentary eliminated. The distilleries, states of origin, alcohol proof and other tidbits are identified for each brand. Clicking on the brands' names will link to their websites.

Aroma: Ginger ale, ginger chew candy, Sprite, 7 Up, nice lime, lime juice, lime zest, Moscow Mule.
Palate: Lime, fresh lime juice, ginger, ground ginger, ginger root, real ginger flavor, classic ginger ale, Sprite, tequila soda, grassy, creamy.
Finish: Strong ginger, lime, lime peel, Sprite, great for cocktails, fresh, easy drinking, a triumph.

Aroma: Light floral notes, subtle citrus, neutral.
Palate: Vanilla, pastry dough, wheat, elderflower, floral, melon, vegetal, grassy, earthy, smooth, creamy, great texture, viscosity, very unique, interesting, pleasant.
Finish: Herbal, smooth, creamy, clean, fresh, nice.

(Sion Farm Distillery, St. Croix, USVI)  Distilled from breadfruit. Infused with cold pressed Puerto Rican coffee.  80° prf

Aroma: Strong black coffee, spicy coffee, iced coffee, nice cacao, ripe banana, churros, cinnamon, spice, jalapeño.
Palate: Dark roast coffee, unsweetened Starbucks coffee, iced coffee, coffee bean grinds, coffee grounds, sugar pie, toffee, nutmeg, cinnamon, dusty, creamy.
Finish: Coffee, burnt coffee, Colombian coffee bean, lingering cinnamon, spice, nice, easy to drink, savory, tasty.

Aroma: Coconut, lime, green pepper, peppery, touch of cinnamon.
Palate: Red pepper flakes, chipotle, fire pepper, bell pepper, BBQ, spice, accurate flavor, lovely.
Finish: Chipotle, vegetal, capsaicin, red pepper, pepper, spicy, nice spirit, robust, good in a Bloody Mar.

Aroma: Cocoa, cacao, chocolate, cola bean, black coffee, vanilla, caramel, earthy.
Palate: Cocoa bean, cocoa, chocolate, buttery, caramel, tobacco, earth, nicely balanced, well done.
Finish: 70% cacao, cocoa, chocolate, balanced, fresh, delicate, easy to drink, excellent.

Aroma: Tart cherry, cherry candy, vanilla, almond.
Palate: Black cherry, Bing cherry, maraschino, sweet cherry, cherry extract, cherry vanilla, vanilla, light grains, peppermint, smooth, easy drinking.
Finish: Cherry vanilla, peppered cherry, easy to drink.
