The Fifty Best Irish Whiskey Tasting 2025


The Fifty Best held a “blind” tasting of 12 Irish whiskies with fourteen members of our spirits judging panel. The order of service was established beforehand by lottery. Strict tasting rules were applied. The Irish whiskies were poured into fresh glasses from new sealed bottles, and served at slightly above room temperature. Only ice water, neutral unflavored unsalted crackers and chips were available to cleanse the palate.

The judges wrote down their impressions of each product on score sheets. The scoring was done on a 5-point system, with 5 as the highest. Double-Gold, Gold and Silver medals are awarded according to a set range of final point scores received from the judges. There were no Bronze medals awarded for this tasting. Medals are provided based entirely on merit and only to products judged worthy of such award.

100% single grain. Aged in bourbon barrels for 10 years, finished in Muscatel casks for an additional 2 years.

10% single malt, 90% single grain. Matured in bourbon barrels.

Nose:Toffee, caramel, butter, brown sugar, cocoa, vanilla, honey, raisins, golden raisins, banana, banana peel, pear, apple, green apple, lemon zest, mild citrus, floral, slightly nutty, hints of salt, spice, black pepper, malt, subtle brine, earthy, char, wood, oak.

Made from barley, oats & rye. Matured in American oak bourbon barrels & vintage Madeira casks.

Aged in bourbon casks. Finished in dark rum casks & PX sherry butts. Bonded & bottled at cask strength.
